2000 years ago riding horses was bareback, until the
warriors of the steppes of Asia invented the saddle, precursor of any type of horsesaddle we have today.
With this revolutionary invention, the horse falls decreased
and the warriors fighted in a more effective way. Since then, every rider
should have his saddle.
Since that moment the saddle has evolved and there are
numerous types of saddles, depending on various factors, such as region, horse
race, and activity that we will do with the horse.
In Spain, for field work with cattle and especially for
bullfighting and Rejoneo, there is a type of Spanish cowboy saddle, the Spanish
Vaquera saddle, a saddle characterized by large width, squared, and covered
with a sheepskin, usually white.
On the front, it has left a piece of wool blanket footrest,
which was once used as a shelter to the horse, but today is merely decorative. The
stirrups are very large, usually painted black on iron, and go forward
position, supporting the rider on the entire surface of the stirrup.
Spanish Vaquera saddle is a very comfortable saddle, because
of the lambskin on the surface, with a nice touch, and great for country walks.
